Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions
Install Premium Tracker from the Google Workspace Marketplace™ — it's free. After installing, open a Google Sheet and go to Extensions → Premium Tracker → Set Up Spreadsheet. This creates a fully formatted 6-tab spreadsheet with all headers, dropdowns, and formatting in place. You can then start logging trades immediately in the Transaction Log tab.
Go to the Transaction Log tab. Each row is one transaction. Use the dropdown menus in the Type column (CALL or PUT) and Action column (Sell to Open, Buy to Close, Expired, Assigned, Rolled). Fill in the ticker, strike, expiry, stock price at entry, quantity, and premium per contract. The Total Premium and Net Premium columns calculate automatically.
A Group ID (e.g., GRP-001) links your open and close transactions for the same position. When you sell to open a covered call and later it expires worthless, both rows share the same Group ID — that's how Premium Tracker knows they're the same trade. Assign a Group ID to the Sell to Open row first, then use the same ID on the corresponding close (Expired, BTC, Assigned, etc.). You can generate Group IDs using the input area at the top of the Transaction Log tab.
Go to Extensions → Premium Tracker → Refresh Positions. This rebuilds the Positions (Grouped) tab, Weekly Summary, Monthly Summary, and Dashboard from your Transaction Log data. Run this any time you add or edit transactions.
Each closed position receives a 0–100 numeric score based on 5 weighted factors:

Strike Precision (30%) — How close the stock finished to your strike at expiry or close.
Outcome Efficiency (25%) — Whether the outcome was ideal for your option type (CC wants to expire worthless; CSP wants to get assigned).
Premium Efficiency (25%) — Your weekly yield on capital deployed.
Capital Efficiency (10%) — Annualized return on capital.
Trade Management (10%) — How well you handled the position (held to expiry, closed early for profit, etc.).

Scores convert to grades: A = 90–100, B = 80–89, C = 70–79, D = 60–69, F = below 60.
The scoring system is strategy-aware for the Wheel Strategy. For a Cash-Secured Put, the ideal outcome is assignment — you collect the premium and acquire the stock at your target price to then sell covered calls. A CSP that expires worthless means you didn't get assigned, which is a missed opportunity for the next leg of the wheel. The Outcome Efficiency score reflects this by giving expired CSPs a lower score than assigned CSPs.
Stock @ Close is the underlying stock price at the time your position closed (expired, was assigned, or was bought to close). It's used to calculate Strike Precision — how close the stock was to your strike at the end of the trade. You can fill it in manually by looking up the closing price on the expiration or close date. With the Premium tier (coming soon), this will be captured automatically via the E*TRADE™ API.
Your trade data lives entirely in your own Google Sheet — it is never transmitted to our servers. The add-on uses spreadsheets.currentonly permission, which means it can only read and write to the specific Sheet it's installed in, and cannot access any of your other Google Sheets. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Premium is coming soon. Join the waitlist to be notified when it launches. Premium will include automatic transaction sync from E*TRADE™ via OAuth, stock price capture at entry and close, automatic position grouping, and expiration detection.
First, try running Set Up Spreadsheet again from the Extensions → Premium Tracker menu — this resets the sheet structure without deleting your data. If the problem persists, email us at nealm682@gmail.com with a description of what happened and which tab or menu item was involved.
